FSSAI Issues Corrective Notice to Delhi’s Radisson Blu Over Food Safety Violations
FSSAI has issued a corrective notice to New Delhi’s Radisson Blu over alleged food safety and hygiene violations, citing equipment defects, pest activity, spoiled produce and concerns over oil quality and food handling.
During an inspection, the authority reportedly identified deficiencies in the premises, equipment, cleanliness, food procurement and storage practices. The hotel operator has been directed to take immediate corrective measures and submit a detailed action-taken report supported by documents and relevant photographs.
According to the notice, inspectors found rusted machinery and leakage in a freezer, while the arrangements for maintaining appropriate cooling conditions were inadequate. Deficiencies were also recorded in temperature monitoring, ventilation, flooring and lighting.
The inspection further revealed shortcomings in cleaning and sanitation, including stagnant water, drainage problems and improper management of food waste. Pest control measures were found to be inadequate, with cockroach and fly activity observed in the inspected areas.
Questions were also raised over the hotel's food procurement and receiving procedures. Mouldy and spoiled fruits and vegetables had reportedly been accepted. The authority identified gaps in records of approved vendors and in the system for tracing the sources of food supplies.
Concerns were also flagged over oil quality and the segregation of food items. At the hotel's NYC Kitchen, oil with Total Polar Compounds (TPC) readings of 31 and 24.4 was reportedly being used. According to the notice, the required suitability testing of the oil had not been conducted.
The inspection also found that raw and cooked food, vegetarian and non-vegetarian items, and allergenic and non-allergenic food products were not properly segregated. Deficiencies were recorded in the separation of food items from non-food materials as well.
Several employee hygiene concerns were documented. Some staff members were reportedly working without gloves and hairnets, while wearing jewellery and keeping long fingernails.
The FSSAI licence was not displayed in a prominent location at the hotel. The notice also recorded deficiencies concerning compliance with licence conditions and the scope of the food business.
The hotel operator has been instructed to submit evidence of corrective measures, including supporting documents and photographs. The notice warns that failure to comply with the directions could lead to further regulatory action, including suspension of the FSSAI licence.
The notice places the hotel’s food handling, sanitation, procurement and operational compliance under scrutiny, with the next regulatory steps dependent on the corrective action and supporting evidence submitted by the operator.
